Mathabhanga is a landrace cannabis appellation in the Koch Bihar growing area of the North Bengal Plains, in Cooch Behar District, West Bengal, India. It covers the Mathabhanga I and II community development blocks.

Cultivation and enforcement

Balasi Hazrahat, in the Mathabhanga police station area, was one of the sites where the district police destroyed cannabis in September 2024.[1]

Most reports from the blocks are seizures at police checkpoints on the Cooch Behar to Mathabhanga road at Nishiganj[2][3] and on the Pundibari to Falakata highway near Ghoksadanga.[4][5] In September 2025 Ghoksadanga police arrested four people with about 24 kg of ganja at a house near Matiyarkuthi in Parduby.[6]
