Tufanganj is a landrace cannabis appellation in the Koch Bihar growing area of the North Bengal Plains, in Cooch Behar District, West Bengal, India. It covers the Tufanganj I and II community development blocks at the eastern end of the district, on the Assam border.

Cultivation and enforcement

Balrampur, under Tufanganj police station, was one of the sites where the district police destroyed cannabis in September 2024,[1] and was named again a month later among the areas where about 1,890 bighas had been cut since September.[2]

The Sankosh bridge, where the road from Assam enters the district, is a checkpoint for ganja moving west. Boxirhat police seized 93.4 kg there in June 2023[3] and 575 kg hidden under tomatoes in September 2023.[4]
