Police secure 16 cannabis plants at a plot in Kampung Pipukmo in Jayawijaya

The narcotics unit of the Jayawijaya district police reported finding a cannabis plot at Kampung Pipukmo in Hubikosi district, Papua Pegunungan, on 27 August 2026 and securing 16 cannabis plants for further examination. Police said the site came to light through cooperation with residents following patrols and aerial observation by drone and that it lies about three kilometres from a public road and is reachable only on foot. Twelve plants were still growing and four had been harvested, measuring between 114 and 137 centimetres. The head of the narcotics unit, Jan B Saragih, was quoted on the health and social harms of cannabis. The report gives the plot as about 260 centimetres by 400 centimetres and states that the plants were secured for further examination, with no destruction reported. The grower remained under investigation.
