Police arrest two men, seize ₱17.7M worth of dried marijuana at Bakun checkpoint, Benguet

Police operatives of the 1st Benguet Provincial Mobile Force Company arrested two men at a checkpoint in Barangay Gambang, Bakun, Benguet on 4 November 2025. According to the police account, a vehicle approaching the checkpoint at Sitio Gakian reversed course toward Barangay Ampusongan and was intercepted after a pursuit at Sitio Mogao, also in Gambang. The two occupants, aged 25 and 24, reportedly claimed to be residents of Parañaque City. Officers recovered 127 tubular bundles of dried leaves totalling 127 kilograms, reported at a standard drug price of ₱15.2 million; a yellow sack containing 10.27 kilograms of dried leaves valued at ₱1.2 million; and a garbage bag holding 10.4 kilograms of dried leaves and stalks also valued at ₱1.2 million. The suspects and seized material were taken to Bakun Municipal Police Station for processing and filing of charges under Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
