PNP Drug Enforcement Group burns cannabis in Maguing, Lanao del Sur, and sprays herbicide on the sites

Journal News Online reported on 19 September 2022 that a marijuana eradication drive led by the Bangsamoro unit of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group in barangays Pindolonan and Dilimbayan, Maguing, Lanao del Sur, on 12 September ended in the burning of around ₱32 million worth of cannabis and later in herbicide spraying. Police from the regional office and the Army's 5th Infantry Division took part, and no arrests were made. The group's director, Brigadier General Narciso Domingo, told the paper that herbicides had also been sprayed on several overrun plantation sites in Maguindanao so that fallen seed would not grow, and that similar operations would follow in the Cordillera, Ilocos-Pangasinan and Cagayan Valley regions. The paper described the spraying as a renewed use of chemical herbicides by the group.
