Malana Cream General Population 2021 is a landrace cannabis accession from Malana, Kullu District, Himachal Pradesh, India, listed as Malana Cream in the seed catalogue of The Real Seed Company (RSC).[1] RSC describes it as a Himalayan cannabis landrace that produces the hand-rubbed high-mountain charas known as Malana Cream.[1]
Geography
The listings place the collection in Malana village, in the Malana Valley of the Indian Himalaya, and give a latitude of about 32° N.[1][2] RSC files the line under its Himalaya category, which names Malana Cream among the underground charas brands of the western Himalaya.[3]
History
According to RSC, the resin is prized for its intense aromas, sticky consistency and heady, mellow high, and like all Himalayan cultigens it has a history of medicinal use.[1][2] RSC reports that modern hybrids were introduced to the region perhaps as early as the 1980s, and that introduced hybrids have recently produced increasing numbers of plants with skunky terpenes and hybrid-like leaflets. It advises that purity cannot be guaranteed for landraces in the Malana region, and that acquiring such accessions before introgression worsens is advisable.[1][2] A blog post of February 2021 reports that hybrid seed has been brought to the Kullu Valley and the Parvati Valley in increasing quantity, including to Malana village.[4] A post of July 2024 describes "Malana Cream" as a name used for the hashish of the Kullu and Parvati valleys, and reports that seed from the Parvati Valley and hybrid seed are being carried north into Garhwal because of the prices the name commands.[5] RSC's blog also notes that Malana and the neighbouring village of Rasol have fields in the same areas of the mountains, so that the names Malana Cream and Rasoli are used for different accessions rather than for distinct strains.[6]

Cultivation Details
RSC gives the purposes as hand-rubbed charas, fibre and seed, and the harvest as late September through October. It lists outdoor or greenhouse growing.[1][2]
Botanical Characteristics
RSC describes tall, lanky cultigens with long internodes and loose, resinous buds, and reports that the plants are hardy and suited to being bred for outdoor use at northern latitudes, and that CBD chemotypes are common. It gives intermediate domestication among the characteristics.[1] RSC gives a height of up to about 6 metres outdoors, Kwik Seeds 3 to 6 metres, and the archived version of January 2023, for the same collection, 2 to 6 metres.[1][2][7] RSC notes that broad leaflets during early growth are characteristic of traditional Himalayan landraces.[1] It files the line under its CBD category, which it describes as covering high-CBD cannabis landraces.[8]
Aroma
RSC gives floral, fruity and malty aromas, with deeper, more pungent and hashy notes.[1][2]
