Central Bureau of Narcotics destroys cannabis on 12,900 bighas of forest land in Kullu district

The Tribune reported on 21 September 2022 that four Central Bureau of Narcotics teams had destroyed cannabis on 12,900 bighas (1,032 ha) of forest land in Kullu district in a two-week operation supported by the district administration, the Forest Department and the police. Narcotics Commissioner Rajesh F Dhabre said the teams used GPS tagging and drones to locate cultivation and climbed up to 11,000 feet. He said villages passed resolutions to destroy plantations around them once the NDPS Act's penal provisions had been explained to their pradhans. ETV Bharat's Hindi report of 20 September gave the area as 13,000 bighas over about three weeks, quoted Joint Commissioner Sanjay Kumar and named the hills of 16 localities covered, among them Rumsu, Hallan, Malana, Tosh, Grahan and Manikaran.
