Kandahar Reproduction 2019 is a landrace cannabis accession from Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, listed as Kandahar in the seed catalogue of The Real Seed Company (RSC).[1] RSC classifies it as an Afghan Hindu Kush landrace.[1]
Geography
RSC reports that the landrace was collected outside Kandahar and gives a latitude of about 32° N.[1]
History
RSC describes Kandahar as an ancient centre of cannabis biodiversity and a historic centre of cannabis production long before the era of the Hippie Trail. It writes that Kandahar was exporting charas south to what are now Pakistan and India at least as early as the 19th century.[1] According to RSC, the city became a stop on the Hippie Trail in the late 1960s, and the Brotherhood of Eternal Love began exporting hashish from there to America.[1] RSC states that the Harvard ethnobotanist Richard Evans Schultes travelled to the region in 1971 at the request of the Brotherhood, and that in the deserts of the province he formed his concept of Cannabis indica as a distinct species unique to Afghanistan.[1]
Collection Details
The listing gives the sourcing as Landrace Genetics, Kandahar Province, Afghanistan (2019). RSC states that the landrace was collected in 2019 and then maintained ex situ, and that the seeds on sale are a reproduction of the original 2019 accession.[1] The Kwik Seeds listing of the same line, on the shop RSC calls its other site,[2] gives the same sourcing and account.[3] Both listings report viability tested at 100 per cent and advise allowing up to two weeks for seedlings to appear.[1][3]
Cultivation Details
RSC gives the purpose as charas (sieved resin) and the harvest as October. It lists outdoor, greenhouse or indoor growing.[1] In a powdery mildew resistance test reported on its blog in February 2025, RSC counted Kandahar among the excellent performers.[4]
Botanical Characteristics
RSC gives a height of up to 2 metres and describes resinous plants with Indica-type leaflets.[1]
Aroma
RSC gives the aroma as hash and citrus.[1]
