Judicial police seize 4.89 tonnes of cannabis resin from an abandoned van near Safi

The Direction Generale de la Surete Nationale said that its provincial judicial police service in Safi seized 4 tonnes and 890 kilograms of cannabis resin in the early hours of 12 August 2026. Officers acting on intelligence supplied by the Direction Generale de la Surveillance du Territoire found a light commercial van standing on waste ground in the rural commune of Ayir on the outskirts of Safi, and a search recovered 111 bales from inside the vehicle. The communique said the driver fled before police reached the van and that no arrests were made. A judicial investigation was opened under the supervision of the public prosecutor to identify the driver and other people said to be involved.
