Morocco's Interior Ministry reports illegal cannabis cultivation down to 15,496 hectares in 2026, 88.43% below 2003

Hespress English reported that Morocco's Ministry of Interior said, in its 2026 performance report, that the area used for illegal cannabis cultivation fell from around 134,000 hectares in 2003 to 15,496 hectares in 2026, a decrease of 88.43%. The ministry attributed the decline to field operations by provincial committees. The report also gave seizures through the end of August 2026, including more than 274 tonnes of hashish and 53 tonnes of cannabis plants.
