Highland Lao #5 General Population 2023 is a landrace cannabis accession from Bolikhamsai Province, Laos, listed as Highland Lao #5 in the seed catalogue of The Real Seed Company (RSC).[1] RSC classifies it as a Lao-Thai ganja landrace.[1] The Real Seed Company offers the line for sale on its Kwik Seeds site (checked 17 October 2026).[2]
Geography
RSC places the landrace in the jungles and highlands of Bolikhamsai, which it calls a crucial centre of production of "Thai" ganja. It gives a latitude of about 18° N.[1]
Collection Details
The listing gives the sourcing as The Real Seed Company, Laos (2023). RSC calls the line a new accession and states that it is the first accession it has obtained from this farmer.[1] Neither RSC nor the Kwik Seeds listing of the same line, on the shop RSC calls its other site,[3] names the farmer or the village. Kwik Seeds gives the same sourcing.[4]
In August 2023 Angus gave a packet of Highland Lao #5 seed to the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System, with a donor's note dating the collection to winter 2023 in Bolikhamsai Province. The system holds the seed as accession G 33711 at its Plant Genetic Resources Unit in Geneva, New York.[5][6]
Cultivation Details
RSC gives the purpose as ganja, which it glosses as seedless or lightly seeded buds. It gives the regional growing period as about five to six months from seed to harvest and lists greenhouse or outdoor growing.[1]
Botanical Characteristics
RSC describes narrow-leafleted, classic Sativa-type plants 2 to 4 metres tall.[1] Versions of the listing from 2023 to May 2025 classified the line as Cannabis sativa subsp. indica var. indica.[7][8] According to RSC, the listing's photograph shows a plant of this accession growing at 40° N in mid-July.[1]
Aroma
RSC describes rich, intense aromas.[1]
