Highland Lao #6 General Population 2024 is a landrace cannabis accession from Bolikhamsai Province, Laos, listed as Highland Lao #6 in the seed catalogue of The Real Seed Company (RSC).[1] RSC classifies it as a Lao-Thai ganja landrace.[1]

Geography

RSC places the landrace in the jungles and highlands of Bolikhamsai, which it calls a crucial centre of production of "Thai" ganja. It gives a latitude of about 18° N.[1]

History

According to RSC, ganja is a traditional household plant in this region of Laos, particularly among lowland rice-farming communities of ethnic Tai such as the Lao.[1] RSC reports that commercial cultivation expanded with Western demand for "Thai Stick" in the late 1960s. It adds that cultivation grew rapidly through the 1980s after US-driven crackdowns across the Mekong in the ethnically Lao north of Isan.[1] The Kwik Seeds listing of the same line, on the shop RSC calls its other site,[2] places that rapid growth in the 1970s and 1980s.[3]

Collection Details

The listing gives the sourcing as The Real Seed Company, Laos (2024).[1] Kwik Seeds calls the line a new accession from farmers in Bolikhamsai.[3] Neither listing names the farmers or their village.[1][3]

Cultivation Details

RSC gives the purpose as ganja, which it glosses as seedless or lightly seeded buds. It gives the regional growing period as six months from seed to harvest, noting that ganja is grown as a six-month crop across the tropics. It lists greenhouse or outdoor growing.[1]

Botanical Characteristics

RSC gives a height of 2 to 4 metres and a Sativa-type architecture.[1] The Kwik Seeds listing, and the RSC listing in 2025, classify the line as Cannabis sativa subsp. indica var. indica.[3][4]

Aroma

RSC describes rich, intense aromas.[1]

Effects

RSC describes a stimulating, euphoric and luminous high. It says the effects are strongly euphoric and range from intensely stimulating to trippy and psychedelic.[1]
