Purnadhi is a confection of ganja recorded in the Madras Presidency. The Indian Hemp Drugs Commission listed purnathi from Madras in 1894 among the hemp sweetmeats similar to majum, all of them considered aphrodisiac.[1]: 158
In 1957 I. C. and R. N. Chopra gave its ingredients as ganja, dried ginger, sittarattai (lesser galingale), black pepper, nutmeg, cloves, mace, kurva, pattai, cinnamon, aniseed, liquorice, cumin, rose-buds, surat avari, gallnut, ghee and sugar. These were pounded together and heated over a fire until they had "the consistency of a thick jelly". "One-eighth of this is said to be ganja (excluding ghee and sugar)", they wrote. They listed it with other ganja preparations of Madras, among them purnadhi legiyam: ganja washed several times in hot water, dried, powdered and mixed with ghee, sugar, dry ginger, pepper and spices.[2]
