Focus Regular seed of lines it maintains (chiefly a Mazar-i-Sharif line) and of hybrids bred from them

ATAO Genetics (also Atao Seeds) is a cannabis seed producer that sells regular seed of lines it maintains and of hybrids it has bred from them.[1] Its first line is a Mazar-i-Sharif line that it has selected since 2009 from seed sold by The Real Seed Company.[2][3] It ships from France.[4][5] It sells through other seed shops, by private order and in auctions on the growers' forum Overgrow that give half of each sale to the forum.[4][6]

The Mazar-i-Sharif line

ATAO's account of the line, posted on Overgrow in March 2023, begins with landrace seed of Mazar-i-Sharif released by The Real Seed Company. The breeding started from two parents chosen from a single pack, a female with a strawberry scent and a shorter male with wider leaves. The female was kept alive as a clone for four years. ATAO labels their seed the F2. In 2011 the clone was crossed with selected F2 males, a generation ATAO labels F2BX. A third generation, grown indoors from the F2 and the F2BX and labelled F3BX2, followed in 2016. The F4 of 2021 was released to the public through the shops ZenHouseGardens, SeedHeaven and Hemp Depot.[3] ATAO's listing on Hemp Depot says the F2 and the backcross were made outdoors and the F3 to F5 indoors by open pollination.[7] ATAO calls the line an inbred line (IBL) and also names it Mazari.[3][1]

ATAO's website calls the line Mazari P5 in its list of October 2026. Stockists' listings call it the fifth generation.[1][8][9] Its description on Hemp Depot names aromas "from fruity strawberry, peach and citrus to diesel kush and leather".[7]

In April 2026 ATAO said it believed that the Mazar-i Sharif sold by The Landrace Team (TLT) came from a strawberry-scented line ATAO had been selecting since 2009; TLT's listing calls Mazar-i Sharif a landrace from the Balkh region of Afghanistan.[10][3][11]

Other lines

Thaizar crosses a selected Red Thai female, which ATAO calls chocolate and minty, with the second generation of the Mazari line; ATAO's listing dates its F3 to 2019.[12] Mazjam crosses a Mazari female with several males of a private line of Jamaican Lambsbread.[13] ATAO says it has kept Swazi Red, a line of Afropips, since 2011, reproducing it from several parents.[7] Hemp Depot also listed Madagascar Zamala; the listing calls it a second generation from a landrace of southern Madagascar.[7]

In March 2023 ATAO listed the lines it had in stock for private sale, among them Swazi Red and the Mazari at F4, with a Jamaican Lambsbread line from the Vibes Collective as free seed.[14] The website's list of October 2026 divides the collection into three groups. Under "Pure heirloom landrace" it puts the Mazari, a Madagascar line and Double Mazar, a cross of a Black Mazar with the Mazari. Seven hybrids follow (Caribbean Dream, Malawazi, Lebanzi, Old World Indica, O'Zamzi, Zambaz and Powered Thai), three of which have Swazi Red as a parent. The free seed is the Jamaican Lambsbread and a line called Lashkar Gah.[1]

Sales

The website advertises regular seed and calls the packs "Souvenir Seeds In The State Of Collection And Genetic Preservation".[1] The website offers free shipping worldwide except to the United States. ATAO stopped sending seed there in September 2025, citing new customs rules.[1][5] Customers can also order privately by email.[15]

The website links to three stockists: Hemp Depot, SeedHeaven and Bunkerlinge.[1] In October 2026 SeedHeaven listed seven ATAO lines and Bunkerlinge four, each at €40 a pack.[16][9] Hemp Depot mailed seed to addresses in Canada.[17] In September 2026 ATAO announced that the shop had closed and that its remaining ATAO stock would be sold off to Canadian buyers.[18] In September 2023 ATAO announced an exclusive release in California through the shop Growing Up Ganja.[19]

Overgrow

In January 2023 ATAO opened a thread on Overgrow named after the brand. A second, on the Mazari line, followed in March.[20][3] In November 2024 it opened a shop thread for occasional auctions, with half of each winning bid going to the forum.[6] The organiser of the forum's fundraisers wrote in August 2026 that ATAO had run these sales "on a fifty fifty basis for two years". For that fundraiser ATAO donated its lots outright.[4] It had also given seed to the fundraisers of March 2023 and spring 2025.[21] The organiser of the 2025 round counted it among the forum's "long-time OG sponsors".[22]
