Thunja is an appellation within the Parvati Valley landrace cannabis growing area in Kullu District, Himachal Pradesh. It is the highest and northernmost of three charas-producing settlements in a side valley off the main Parvati Valley. The other appellations in the drainage are Grahan to the south, centred on Grahan village and Pulgi further south again.

Geography

Thunja sits at around 2500 m, with its main fields oriented south-west and benefiting from longer afternoon sun than the south-facing fields of Grahan and Pulgi. Cultivation extends from village level up to roughly 2700 m.

Cannabis cultivation

The local population is a domesticate narrow-leaflet drug-type landrace cultivated for charas production through hand-rubbing of standing plants in the field.
