Pulgi is an appellation within the Parvati Valley landrace cannabis growing area in Kullu District, Himachal Pradesh. It is the smallest and southernmost of three charas-producing settlements in a side valley off the main Parvati Valley. The other appellations in the drainage are Grahan Valley to the north (centred on Grahan village) and Thunja to the north-east.

Pulgi should not be confused with Pulga, a separate village north-west of the Saar Pass on the route to Tosh and Kheerganga.

Geography

Pulgi sits at around 2400 m on south-facing slopes, at a similar elevation to Grahan but with slightly more direct sun exposure. The hamlet is smaller than Grahan and its cultivation footprint correspondingly more compact.

Cannabis cultivation

The local population is a domesticate NLD-type landrace cultivated for charas production through hand-rubbing of standing plants in the field.
