Saur Valley is a landrace cannabis growing area in Pithoragarh District, Uttarakhand, India, in the Western Himalayas growing region. Its four accessions were collected at Bharkatia, Jajardewal and Chatkeshwar, between 1,517 and 1,638 m. The fields at Jajardewal are the Saur Valley appellation.
Geography
Bharkatia, at 1,517 m, lies about 4.5 km south-east of the other two sites. Jajardewal and Chatkeshwar share one point at 1,638 m. The accessions from Bharkatia and Jajardewal give Munakot Block and Pithoragarh district. The Chatkeshwar accession, named Saur Valley Chatkeshwar Temple General Population 2024, gives Sadar Pithoragarh and Champawat district instead.
Cultivation
All four accessions are landrace general populations. They come from fields still in use, in a region where the crop is widely grown. They are grown for several uses from seed kept from locally grown flower and from seed bought or acquired. Three are broadcast-sown and the Bharkatia population reproduces by itself. All four give a planting season of May and June and a harvest from September to November. All four are intercropped, and the three from Jajardewal and Chatkeshwar are also semi-feral and monoculture.
Isabella and Roy collected seed at all three sites on 11 September 2025, on the UTT01 expedition; the Bharkatia accession names Isabella alone. Three samples are from the 2024 harvest and one Jajardewal sample from 2025.
