Tirah General Population 2024 is a landrace cannabis accession from Tirah, a hashish-producing area in the mountains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, on the border with Afghanistan, listed as Tirah in the seed catalogue of The Real Seed Company (RSC).[1] RSC describes it as an authentic Hindu Kush landrace of the 2024 harvest, from a renowned centre of hashish production in northwest Pakistan.[1] The line is on sale at RSC and on its Kwik Seeds site (checked 27 October 2026).[1][2]
Geography
RSC gives a latitude of 33° N. It places the Tirah Valley in a region once known as the Tribal Agencies, a mountainous and ethnically Pashtun area beyond the direct control of the Pakistani government, and writes that the valley cuts through the Orakzai, Kurram and Khyber agencies.[1]
History
According to RSC, the valley is a major centre of cannabis cultivation, best known for Tirah garda, a refined form of dry-sieved charas with a potent, narcotic effect, often blonde or golden, which darkens and "melts" with age.[1] RSC warns that the Internet is bringing modern hybrid seed to Pakistan, as is happening across India.[1]
Collection Details
The listing gives the sourcing as "Landrace Genetics, Tirah Valley, Hindu Kush, 2024 Harvest", and has done so since May 2025.[3] Its earlier versions sold three other lots under the same title, of the 2018, 2019 and 2022 harvests; they are not this accession.[4] Neither listing names a village or farmer.[1][2]
Cultivation Details
RSC gives the purpose as charas (sieved resin) and the harvest as late September to early November, and lists outdoor, greenhouse or indoor growing.[1]
Botanical Characteristics
RSC gives a height of about 2 metres and describes resinous, mostly broad-leafleted, quite early maturing plants, with aromas of coffee, hazelnut, hash, citrus, kush, earthy musk and gasoline that vary greatly from plant to plant.[1] It writes that Tirah crops, at the interface of Central and South Asia, range from short, heavily branched Indica-type plants with relatively broad leaflets to more Sativa-type variants, like the "Khyber Sativa" strain of old seedbank catalogues.[1]
