Lao Sa General Population 2024 is a landrace cannabis accession from Laos, listed as Lao Sa in the seed catalogue of The Real Seed Company (RSC).[1] RSC classifies it as a Lao-Thai cannabis landrace grown for ganja.[1]
Name
RSC reports that sa, pronounced "sah", is the name most often used in Lao communities for ganja, and that the sound, including the tone, is the same as for "tea".[1]
Collection Details
The listing gives the sourcing as The Real Seed Company, Laos, Southeast Asia, winter 2024, and a latitude of about 21° N.[1] RSC describes the seed as coming from the garden of a Lao friend who collects and tests seeds, whose parent plants were from accessions of 2019 to 2022 from central and southern Laos, including Savannakhet (Lao Gold, Lao Gold General Population 2026), Bolikhamsai (Highland Lao #2), Burmese (Burmese General Population 2025) and the Lao plants already grown in the garden.[1] The listing names no village and no district. The Kwik Seeds listing of the same line, on the shop RSC calls its other site,[2] dates the sourcing to winter 2020 and gives the parent plants as accessions of 2019 to 2021, which was RSC's own line from May 2022 to March 2023.[3]
Cultivation Details
RSC gives the purpose as ganja, which it glosses as seedless or lightly seeded buds, and the regional growing period as about five to six months from seed to harvest, with Lao and Thai cannabis landraces typically taking six months and earlier plants leaning towards five. It lists greenhouse or outdoor growing.[1] Kwik Seeds gives the regional harvest as December to March, which was RSC's line until May 2022.[3]
Botanical Characteristics
RSC describes tropical Sativa-type architecture, intense rich and musky aromas, impressive resin, smooth smoking and unique euphoric highs, and gives a height of up to 4 metres.[1] Kwik Seeds gives the same characteristics and a height of 2 to 4 metres.[3]
