Burmese General Population 2025 is a landrace cannabis accession from Shan State, Myanmar, listed as Burmese in the seed catalogue of The Real Seed Company (RSC).[1] RSC classifies it as a Tai ganja landrace.[1]
Geography
RSC describes Shan State as an ethnically Tai region of Burma and gives a latitude of about 21° N.[1]
Collection Details
The listing gives the sourcing as The Real Seed Company, Shan State (2025). RSC describes its 2025 stock as collected directly from Shan State.[1] According to RSC, an aficionado and cultivator from Laos was so impressed by the ganja in Burma that the seed was brought back to be grown at home in Laos.[1] The Kwik Seeds listing of the same line, on the shop RSC calls its other site,[2] states that this cultivator collected the seed in Shan State. It adds that its photograph shows garden plants from a germination test.[3] Earlier versions of the RSC listing offered stock dated 2021 and, from 2024, "winter 2023 stock". Both were described as collected directly from Shan State by an aficionado and cultivator from Laos.[4][5]
Cultivation Details
RSC gives the purpose as ganja (seedless or lightly seeded buds), the regional harvest as December to March and a height of 2 to 4 metres. It lists greenhouse or outdoor growing.[1]
Botanical Characteristics
RSC describes powerfully intense resin and aromas and a Sativa-type architecture.[1] It notes that aromas and potency vary within the population and with harvest time and the skill of the cultivator.[1] The versions that offered the earlier stock, from 2021 to 2024, classified the landrace as C. sativa subsp. indica var. indica.[4][5]
Reports quoted by RSC differ on bud structure. A customer with decades of experience describes a lot of resin and very nice bud structure, very dense for a pure Sativa. An experienced farmer who grew many plants indoors describes big, vigorous pure Sativas with large fluffy buds like some old Colombians. The farmer reports plants that were very tall even with significant root restriction, some of whose buds cured brown.[1] A grower quoted by Kwik Seeds finds the morphology similar to classic willowy Lao types but taller and faster growing. The same grower says some plants can be almost Haze-like.[3] RSC also reports one cultivator's purple plant with a "mushroom-like high".[1]
Aroma
The farmer's review quoted by RSC describes the growing plants as smelling of mango-carrot and spicy haze, with some incense and a sweet citric bite. It describes the dried flowers as peppery, hazy, herbal, minty, citric and incense-like, with oregano and a strong waxy tropical Sativa smell. It notes that the mango smell becomes more subdued on drying. The same review describes the flavour as extremely spicy, herbal, tobacco-like and smooth, with incense.[1] The customer quoted by RSC reports that after a month of curing the taste changed from tobacco, coffee and chocolate to sweetness.[1] The grower quoted by Kwik Seeds describes strong spicy citrus and mango-carrot smells with powerful undertones of sweetness.[3]
Effects
RSC describes effects ranging from strongly stimulating to psychedelic. It quotes one cultivator describing the high from late-harvested bud as "caffeinated tripped out paranoia".[1] The customer quoted by RSC describes a clear, cerebral effect that encourages reasoning and some motivation, with a psychedelic side and no couchlock.[1] The farmer's review rates the potency high to extremely high. It describes the best plants as very strongly stimulating, with closed- and open-eye visuals, tending more to trippiness than euphoria and too intense for some people.[1]
Notes
Both listings state that so-called "Yunnan Indica" lines circulating at seed sites are examples of Western breeders hybridising with Skunk, which they say genomic analysis demonstrates. RSC extends the claim to alleged "Burmese" strains.[1][3]
