1990 RSC Sinai Reproduction is seed grown outside Egypt from Sinai General Population 1990, landrace seed that The Real Seed Company (RSC) collected in the mountains of the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, between 1990 and 1997. It is the seed RSC sells under the listing Sinai.[1] The line is on sale at RSC and on its Kwik Seeds site (checked 27 October 2026).[1][2]
Production
The listing states that "Available seeds are from ex-situ reproductions of the original accessions"; the sentence first appears in the version archived in November 2024.[3] The Kwik Seeds listing, on the shop RSC calls its other site,[4] does not mention reproductions.[2]
In August 2023 Angus gave a packet of Sinai seed to the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System, which holds it as accession G 33761 at its Plant Genetic Resources Unit in Geneva, New York.[5][6] The donor's note says the seeds are from ex situ maintenance grows of accessions collected in Sinai during the 1990s, not produced by modern or intensive breeding methods, so that the plants should be representative of an authentic Egyptian landrace.[5] In September 2026 the donor added that the line was usually used as bud, but in recent history often as dry-sieved hashish.[5]
Botanical Characteristics
The listing's earliest archived version, of August 2019, captioned its photographs as plants of the Sinai landrace outdoors in Spain and in Oregon in early September.[7] The curators of the USDA unit noted in their 2024 field trial that one plant appeared to be of XY genotype but bore female flowers.[5]
Source accession
RSC collected the seed in various batches in the mountains of Sinai between 1990 and 1997.[1] The geography, history and description RSC gives for the line are on the page of the collections, Sinai General Population 1990.
