Discussion
Identifier
The accession identifier is RSC-EGY-UNK-0119900001-R1: the identifier of the collections, RSC-EGY-UNK-0119900001, with the reproduction suffix -R1.
Sourcing
The RSC listing for Sinai as it stood on 27 October 2026 and its 28 versions in the Wayback Machine from August 2019 to May 2026; the Kwik Seeds listing as it stood on 26 October 2026; and the GRIN-Global entry for G 33761.
Evidentiary scope
The sources establish that the seed on sale comes from ex situ reproductions of the 1990s collections. They do not say where or when the reproductions were grown, how many there have been, or whether the batches were kept apart. The listing has called the seed a reproduction only since November 2024; the donor's note of 2023 already did so.
Typing
- Accession type: Reproduction, autochtonous
No: the listing and the donor's note both call the seed ex situ reproductions. - Classification: Landrace, the class of the collections it was grown from.
- Sourcing type is left empty: the sources do not say how many generations have been grown.
- No coordinates. The sources do not say where the reproductions were grown. The collections' place is discussed on Talk:RSC-EGY-UNK-0119900001.
- Seed viability is left empty: neither listing reports a test.
Photographs
The infobox image and the gallery image are from the RSC listing, uploaded under fair use at reduced resolution; the listing captions neither now. The infobox image has been on it since November 2024 and is filed under a name that places it at 40° N in mid-July; the gallery image, on it since August 2020, is filed as "Sinai-Egyptian-Sativa-variant", and shows the sprawling, vine-like form the listing describes for Sativa-type plants. Both show plants grown outside Egypt, so they are on this page; the captions describe what the pictures show. The person at the edge of the infobox image is not identified and is out of frame above the waist.
USDA genebank accession
The U.S. National Plant Germplasm System holds Sinai seed as G 33761 (GRIN-Global entry), received on 22 August 2023 in a donation from Angus. The infobox lists it as the same lot as this accession:
- the donor's note describes seed "from ex-situ maintenance grows of accessions originally collected in Sinai during the 1990s", the seed the listing sells;
- RSC lists no other Sinai line.
The entry's point, 28.5394, 33.9754, is discussed on Talk:RSC-EGY-UNK-0119900001.
