Plowman 2664 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected as a weed in a garden on the Plaza de Armas of Santiago, Chile, on 9 April 1969 by Timothy Plowman. The sheet is L.1592596 at the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden; a second sheet of the same gathering is US 2710606 at the National Museum of Natural History (US).[1][2]
Collection and locality
The typed label is headed Plants of Chile and reads No. 2664, Prov. Santiago: Santiago. Plaza de Armas, Coll. Timothy Plowman and Date: 9 Apr. 1969. In the Naturalis catalogue the locality is Chile, Prov. Santiago, Santiago, Plaza de Armas. and the collector and number Plowman, TC 2664.[1] The Plaza de Armas is a square in the commune of Santiago, in the present Santiago Metropolitan Region.[3]
Field observations
The plant was a herb 2.5 to 3.0 metres tall, growing as a weed in a garden; the label's words are Rank herb 2.5 - 3.0 m. tall growing as weed in garden.[1]
Specimen and identification
The label and both catalogues name the plant Cannabis sativa L..[1][2] The Leiden sheet carries the printed heading of the Rijksherbarium, Leiden (Herb. Lugd. Bat.) with the number 407588, and the Nationaal Herbarium Nederland barcode L 0815755.
The Smithsonian sheet, barcode 00976134, has the same collector, number and date.[2]
