On Sunday 30 November 2025, a Sonamura Police Station-led joint operation destroyed approximately 400,000 mature cannabis plants across 34 plots in the Kamalnagar, Ghatigarh and Dulunga forest areas of Sonamura sub-division, Sepahijala district. The operation was led by Sonamura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Inspector Tapas Das with personnel from the 81 and 49 Battalions BSF, the 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th Battalions of the Tripura State Rifles, the 14th Battalion Women TSR and Sonamura sub-division forest teams. The operation was one of three same-day Sepahijala district destruction drives, alongside parallel ops led by Bishramganj Police Station and Madhupur Police Station, totalling over 442,000 plants destroyed district-wide.
