Jatrapur Police destroys 1 lakh ganja plants on 22 plots at Kathalia and South Paharpur

On Tuesday 23 December 2025, a Jatrapur Police Station-led joint operation destroyed approximately 100,000 mature cannabis plants across 22 plots in two areas of Sonamura sub-division, Sepahijala district. The team first cleared 12 plots in the Southern Teichhmar jungle of the ADC Village area near Kathalia, then proceeded approximately 12 km north along the Sonamura-Bilonia bypass road from the Kathalia commercial area tri-junction to the Thandamura forest of South Paharpur, where 10 further plots were destroyed. The operation was carried out in dense fog by Jatrapur Police Station personnel with the 9th, 11th and 14th Battalions of the Tripura State Rifles. Per Officer-in-Charge Smritikanta Burdhan, some local observers were present at a distance during the destruction but the cultivators did not attempt resistance, attributed to the size of the deployment. The operation was led by Jatrapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Smritikanta Burdhan.
