Sepahijala Police 'Mega Drive' destroys 12 lakh ganja plants on 120 plots across five police stations

On Tuesday 18 November 2025, a Sepahijala District Police-led joint operation, informally referred to by some units as the 'Mega Cannabis Plants Destruction Drive', destroyed approximately 1,200,000 semi-mature cannabis plants across 120 plots in remote forest areas at Sutarmura, Toktumadum, Chitta Rambari, Ukyamura, Tulamura Kamalnagar and Ghatigar, falling under the jurisdictions of the Bishramganj, Bishalgarh, Kalamchura, Sonamura and Melagarh police stations. The operation ran from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm with over 500 personnel deployed, including the District Police, the 1st, 7th, 11th and 14th Battalions of the Tripura State Rifles, the Central Reserve Police Force, Women TSR, district civil administration and Forest Department. Officials estimated the destroyed material at approximately ₹50 crore. The operation was led by Sepahijala Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma. A preliminary investigation indicated the cannabis was likely intended for interstate trafficking. The operation was the largest single-day Sepahijala district destruction drive on record at the time.
