Sonamura Police destroys 2.28 lakh ganja plants on 19 plots and 35 acres in Sonamura

On Sunday 31 August 2025, a Sonamura Police Station-led joint operation destroyed approximately 228,000 cannabis plants across 19 forest plots covering 35 acres in Sonamura sub-division, Sepahijala district. The operation was led by Sonamura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das with Border Security Force and Forest Department personnel. The operation was one of two parallel same-day Sepahijala destruction drives, alongside a Jatrapur Police Station-led op at 12 nursery plots in South Moheshpur and Katalia, totalling over 428,000 plants destroyed district-wide. The combined district-wide effort was reported as one of the largest single-day anti-drug operations in Sepahijala at the time.
