Larionov 65 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected by the river Chulak-terek, in the environs of Kuldja (Ghulja) in Dzungaria, now in Xinjiang, China, on 26 June 1876 by a collector the label names as Larionov. The Moscow University Herbarium holds the sheet as MW0736231.[1] Ernest Small determined it in 1975 as the wild variety, var. spontanea.
Collection and locality
A stamped slip reads Ларионовъ. 1875–76. Джунгария. Окр. г. Кульджи. (Larionov, 1875–76, Dzungaria, environs of the town of Kuldja). A handwritten slip gives the number 65, the date 26 іюня 1876 года (26 June 1876) and the place река Чулакъ-терекъ (river Chulak-terek).[2] The catalogue gives the collector and the date only, with no number or locality.[1]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries five dense, leafy flowering tops laid side by side, with a paper packet at the top.[2] Two determination slips by E. Small name it Cannabis sativa L. (1 September 1974) and then Cannabis sativa L. subsp. sativa var. spontanea Vav. (August 1975), the variety name Nikolai Vavilov gave to wild-growing cannabis.[2] The catalogue records the plant as Cannabis sativa L.[1]
