Lao Highland 2014 is a seed accession of the cannabis line that Khalifa Genetics sells under the name Lao Highland. The company calls it a sativa landrace from the borderlands of Laos, Myanmar and China, grown for generations by Akha people, and says that the seed was collected in northern Laos in 2014.[1] ACE Seeds, which stocks the line, places its origin at Muang Sing in the north of Laos.[2]

Geography

The company suggests that Akha people may have brought seed from neighbouring Yunnan into northern Laos when they left China in the early 20th century, and links this to the line's indica-like traits: sweet, creamy aromas, a fairly short flowering time and large trichome heads.[1]

Collection Details

Khalifa Genetics writes: "Bodhi, famous strain hunter and breeder, collected the seeds directly at source during his 2014 yunnan china and northern laos seed safari." It says that a joint preservation project with Mitseedco then let it preserve the line and improve its sexual stability indoors.[1] ACE Seeds labels its seed a third-generation pure sativa (P3) from Muang Sing, reproduced by open pollination.[2]

Cultivation Details

The company calls the line the fastest-growing landrace it has handled. It says that the plants start flowering after only three weeks and stretch strongly but stay manageable indoors because of their fairly short flowering, that they do well in poor soil and that the outdoor harvest falls in November and December.[1] ACE Seeds puts indoor flowering at 13 to 16 weeks.[2]

Botanical Characteristics

The company describes large, very round seeds and leaflets that are broad on young plants, then narrower, though broader than in most tropical landraces. Many plants turn light purple late in flowering.[1]

Aroma

The company says that the purple plants tend towards deep berry aromas and the green ones towards floral and vanilla notes, with a few green plants smelling hazy or citrus. Most flowers taste fruity, soapy and woody.[1] ACE Seeds adds chocolate and incense.[2]

Effects

The company reports potency from medium to strong according to the plant, with a clean, energetic effect that turns into calm relaxation.[1]
