Fundación is a cannabis appellation in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta growing area, covering the mountain part of the municipality of Fundación, in the south of the department of Magdalena, Colombia.
Geography
The appellation lies on the western slope of the massif.[1]: 3 The town of Fundación and the plain to the west lie outside it.
History
The Colombian Truth Commission recorded the testimony of a peasant of the upper part of Fundación, born in 1957 in Norte de Santander, whose family settled in the Sierra when the peasant was a child, at a time when coffee and beans were the main crops. The peasant said that in the mid-1970s the peasants began to plant marijuana because it paid well, that the best land for it was the temperate ground in the valley of the Ariguaní river, where "a great deal was grown", and that it brought much violence: almost everyone went armed.[2]: 86

The Ministry of Defence's eradication data list five entries of marijuana eradicated in Fundación between August 2014 and November 2020, about 11 hectares, six of them in a single entry of August 2014.[3]
