Chalal is a village in the Parvati Valley in Kullu District, Himachal Pradesh, India. It lies below Rasol, which the collection documentation of the Zomia Collective places above Chalal at 2,600 m.[1] The documentation for the neighbouring Grahan side valley names Chalal, with Rasol and Choj, among "nearby tourist hotspots".[2] In December 2025 the police arrested a man from the village with 6 kg of charas.[3] No accessions carry Chalal as their locality.
Geography
A 2018 report in The Tribune on foreigners missing in Kullu district, which spells the name Chhalal, stated that a Russian national who disappeared from Kasol in May 2011 was found dead "in a gorge between Rasol and Chhalal".[4]
The 2011 census does not enumerate Chalal as a separate village. A census village of similar name, Up Muhal Chhalala, with 191 inhabitants, lies in Manali tehsil 6 km from Manali and is a different place.[5]: 58[6]
Cannabis
The arrest of December 2025 was reported by the regional news portal HimbuMail on 3 December. It described the 6 kg of charas seized from a man of "Chalal village in Manikaran valley" as "the biggest haul of the season in Kullu". It said a case had been registered against the man under the NDPS Act. The report added that "Chalal too has been on the radar of NCB and state police for years", referring to the Narcotics Control Bureau.[3]
The collection documentation describes cannabis fields around Rasol, above the village; it gives none at Chalal itself.[1] The Zomia Collective's index of growing regions does not list the village.[7]
