Central Lao General Population 2022 is a landrace cannabis accession sourced by Angus of The Real Seed Company from Vientiane Province, Laos.[1]

Geography

The accession originates from Vientiane Province in central Laos, along the stretch of the Mekong River at approximately 18° N latitude. The region lies directly across the Mekong from ethnically Lao northern Isan in Thailand, with which it shares deep cultural and agricultural continuities around ganja cultivation.

History

Prior to the late 1960s, the ganja cultivated in Vientiane Province and northern Isan supplied demand from Vientiane itself, then the main urban centre of the region. With the arrival of "Hippie Trail" travellers, farmers on both sides of the Mekong became connected to European and American markets, and bud from this area contributed to what was marketed in the West as "Thai Stick" through the late 1960s and early 1970s.[1]

Collection Details

Seeds were collected by Angus from the winter 2022/2023 harvest in Vientiane Province. The seeds were retested during summer 2025 and showed 100% germination.[1]

Cultivation Details

In the tropics, ganja from this region is grown as a six-month crop from seed to harvest. Earlier individuals or lines may finish closer to five months.[1]

Botanical Characteristics

Plants reach two to four metres in height and exhibit a Sativa-type architecture.[1]

Aroma

Rich, tropical aromas.[1]

Effects

A euphoric, positive high described by RSC as having a soaring, feel-good, speedy intensity.[1]

Conservation Status

Recorded at high conservation priority.

Notes

RSC notes that Central Laos continues to hold an array of ganja domesticates diverse in morphology, aroma, and effect, and suggests "Lao Stick" would have been a more accurate underground brand for the material of this period.[1]
