1996 IUB Thailand Th-1 Reproduction is a reproduction accession of Cannabis indica grown from seed recorded as coming from Thailand. It is known from one herbarium sheet that Karl W. Hillig made on 27 October 1996 from a plant grown in a greenhouse of Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana. The label gives Hillig's parallel code Th-1 and names the seed source as Dr. Ernest Small, under the source code No. 10. The herbarium of Indiana University holds the sheet as catalogue IND-0149679, with the university number 148941.[1]
Seed lot
The label reads Country of origin: Thailand and names no province or place within the country.[1] Th is the code Hillig's terpenoid study gives Thailand.[2] He assembled his collection of 157 accessions of known geographic origin from cannabis breeders, researchers, germplasm repositories and law-enforcement agencies, each accession arriving as a small packet of seed, and his terpenoid study analysed six accessions from Thailand.[2] The herbarium also holds Hillig's sheets of the other Thai parallel codes: Th-2 (IUB-THA-SAK-0019950001 and IUB-THA-SAK-0019960001), Th-3 (IUB-THA-UNK-0019950001 and IUB-THA-UNK-0019960002), Th-4 (IUB-THA-UNK-0019960003), Th-5 (IUB-THA-UNK-0019960004) and Th-6 (IUB-THA-UNK-0019960005).
Grow-out
The label of sheet IND-0149679 gives a germination date of 19 June 1996 and a collection date of 27 October 1996, describes the plant as 244 cm tall, very strong branching, veg. stem aroma and carries the line Used for morphometric analysis in 1996, rep. 1.[1] Hillig's terpenoid study, grown from the same collection, describes greenhouse plants raised one to a pot, with lamps lengthening the day to 16 hours during vegetative growth, and staminate and pistillate plants moved to separate greenhouses once their sex could be told.[2]
Specimens and identification
The printed label names the plant Cannabis indica Lam. and adds the line Narrow-leaflet drug biotype, the narrow-leaflet drug type of Hillig's papers.[1]
