Discussion

Evidentiary scope

The accession rests on one herbarium sheet of a plant grown in a greenhouse at Indiana University, Bloomington, from seed whose label gives Thailand as its country of origin. It shows that seed recorded as Thai was grown there in 1996; it does not show where in Thailand the seed was gathered, when, or by whom. No surviving seed of the lot has been traced. The page therefore carries no locality, coordinates, classification or conservation priority.

Identifier

The identifier IUB-THA-UNK-0019960001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence.

  • IUB stands for Indiana University, Bloomington, which grew the plants and whose herbarium holds the sheet. The herbarium's Index Herbariorum acronym is IND; it is not used in the identifier because IND is also the code for India.
  • THA is the ISO code for Thailand, the recorded seed origin.
  • UNK: no province is recorded.
  • Month 00: the date the seed was gathered is unknown.
  • Year 1996 is the year of the sheet. The seed had reached Indiana University by then; the year is not a collection date.

Lineage

Th-1 is Hillig's parallel code for the lot, and No. 10 the code of the seed source the label names, Dr. Ernest Small. The page reproduces both codes and does not interpret them. No label gives a generation, so the sourcing type is Unknown provenance. No parent accession is set.

Georeferencing

No point is given. The plants were grown in a greenhouse in Bloomington, Indiana, and the label records Thailand as the seed's country of origin without naming any place within it. The country field carries that origin; no province is set and the map is off.

Label reading

The sheet was read from the herbarium's photographs on 12 October 2026. The typed label agrees with the transcription in the Consortium of Midwest Herbaria portal, which lists the university number as the catalogue number. The portal records no determiner; the name on the page is the printed label's. The portal's Germ, date is a slip for the label's Germ. date. What the photographs show is described here and not in the article: IND-0149679 shows a flowering branch that appears pistillate, a separate stem segment pencilled node 3 and a paper packet.

The infobox gives the maximum height as 2.44 m, the label's 244 cm tall on IND-0149679 converted to metres. The label's vegetative stem aroma names a characteristic but describes no scent, so the aroma field is left blank. The label's very strong branching is quoted in the article; the branching field is left blank because its allowed values (Minimal, Moderate, Extensive, Apical dominant) are not the label's grades.

Sources not yet read

The passport data and accession codes of Hillig's collection were published in his paper Genetic evidence for speciation in Cannabis (Cannabaceae), Genetic Resources and Crop Evolution 52 (2005): 161–180 (doi:10.1007/s10722-003-4452-y), which may explain the source and parallel codes. It has not been read for this page, nor has K. W. Hillig and P. G. Mahlberg's 2004 paper on cannabinoid variation in the American Journal of Botany, nor Hillig's 2005 dissertation. Nothing here depends on them. No published paper is cited for the morphometric analysis that the labels name.
