Anon. s.n., Guémar is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa dated 17 April 1858, whose locality reads Cultivé dans l'oasis de Guémar (Souf). The wording places the plant under cultivation in the oasis of Guémar, in the Souf of south-eastern Algeria. No collector is named: the catalogue carries the abbreviation s.c., for sine collectore. The Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris holds the sheet as catalogue P06886058.[1] GBIF publishes it as occurrence 731738679.[2]
Collection and locality
The locality is transcribed as Cultivé dans l'oasis de Guémar (Souf) and the date is carried as a full day, 17 April 1858.[1][2] No habitat, altitude or collection number is carried and no collector is named on either the catalogue or the occurrence.
Guémar is a town of the Souf, the belt of oasis settlements around El Oued in the north-eastern Algerian Sahara. It lies in El Oued Province.[3]
Cultivation stated on a label carries further than a bare occurrence, because it places the plant in a grower's hands and not merely in a landscape.
