Zamatkinov 103/11 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa gathered in a hollow valley between two table-lands, at a place the label calls Alkha-khoshun gobi, in eastern Mongolia, on 15 August 1927 by B. Zamatkinov of the soil party of N. N. Lebedev's expedition for the Academy of Sciences. The New York Botanical Garden holds the sheet as 01414428.[1]
Collection and locality
The printed label is headed Н. Н. Лебедев. Почвенный отряд Монгольской Экспедиции Академии Наук. 1927 (N. N. Lebedev. Soil party of the Mongolian Expedition of the Academy of Sciences, 1927) and numbered № 103/11. It reads Mongolia orientalis and names the Tsetsen-khan, Dariganga and Mergen-van khoshuns (banners), then, in pencil, Алха-хошуни-гоби. Ложбина, находящаяся между двумя возвышенностями (Alkha-khoshun gobi. A hollow between two heights). It gives the date as 15 August 1927 and the collector as Б. Заматкинов (B. Zamatkinov), and ends N. Lebedev. Iter mongolicum, 1927. A stamp marks the sheet as a duplicate from the Academy's botanical institute herbarium. An English slip repeats the place and calls the valley a hollow valley between two table-lands.[2] The catalogue gives the collector, the number, the habitat line and the year 1927.[1]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a single slender plant pulled up with its roots, its long stem mounted on the diagonal, with narrow lobed leaves and small flower clusters along the upper stem.[2] The printed label names it Cannabis sativa L.; the English slip names N. Ikonnikov-Galitzky as determiner. E. Small of Canada Agriculture re-determined the sheet in August 1975 as Cannabis sativa L. subsp. sativa var. spontanea Vav.[2]
