Wang 20222 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at a field side in the vicinity of Peking (Beijing), China, on 3 June 1929 by F. T. Wang. The Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing holds the sheet as PE 00557923[1], and the New York Botanical Garden a duplicate as 1414415.[2]
Collection and locality
The Beijing sheet carries two labels. The first is a typed form of the herbarium of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Plant Taxonomy (中國科學院植物分類研究所), headed with the number 20222. It gives the collector 汪發纘 (Wang Fa-tsuan, stamped) and the date 1929年6月3日 (3 June 1929), the place Peking vacinity and the habitat field side. The second, of the Fan Memorial Institute of Biology's herbarium, gives the same number, the collector F. T. Wang, the place Chihli and the year 1929.[3] The New York catalogue gives the collector as T. Wang, the number and date, the locality Peking and vicinity, Chihli (Hopei) Province. South of Peiping city. and the habitat Fieldside.[2]
Specimen and identification
The Beijing sheet carries a leafy stem with palmate leaves of five to seven narrow, serrate leaflets. The typed form describes a herb with leaves deep or dark green above and green below and greenish white flowers.[3] The Fan Memorial label names it Cannabis sativa L., with no determiner; the New York catalogue gives Cannabis sativa L.[3][2] The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its sheet images under a non-commercial, no-derivatives licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0); they are read and cited here, not reproduced.
