Trofimov s.n., Hotan is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected in sown fields in a village of the Khotan (Hotan) district, in Kashgaria, Xinjiang, China, on 4 October 1940 by T. T. Trofimov, who determined it as the wild variety, var. spontanea. The Moscow University Herbarium holds the sheet as MW0736230.[1]
Collection and locality
The handwritten label, in Russian, reads 1940 4.X Зап. Китай, провинц Синь-Цзянъ (Кашгария) (4 October 1940, West China, province of Sinkiang, Kashgaria), Хотанский округ, кишлак (Khotan district, village) followed by a village name that could not be read with confidence, and в посевах (in sown fields).[2] The catalogue gives the date and a point, but no locality.[1]
Specimen and identification
The label heads the sheet Cannabis sativa L. v. spontanea Vav. and closes Соб. и опр. Т.Т Трофимов. (collected and determined by T. T. Trofimov).[2] The variety name is Nikolai Vavilov's for wild-growing cannabis; the plant was found growing in sown fields. The sheet carries one dense leafy branch with compact flower clusters.[2] The catalogue records the plant as Cannabis sativa L.[1]
