Evidentiary scope

The label records cannabis growing in sown fields (в посевах) in a village of the Khotan district in October 1940, determined by the collector as var. spontanea. Read together, the two statements describe a plant the collector took for the wild type growing in cultivated ground, as a weed or volunteer; the label does not say so in terms, and does not say whether hemp itself was the crop. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.

Read twice, independently, from the holder's image as relayed by GBIF's image cache (2000 × 2948 pixels).

Georeferencing

No coordinate is asserted. The village name was not read with confidence. One reading, Zangui, sounds like Zangguy (藏桂), a township of Guma (Pishan) County, Hotan Prefecture (Wikidata Q14135850; 37.356, 78.795), but no alias or source connects the two, and the name may belong to another village. The catalogue's point, 37.002621, 80.79895, lies about 80 km east of Hotan city; its source is not stated, and it is not adopted. The province field takes Xinjiang.

Editorial treatment

Title. The label carries no collector's number, so the title takes the s.n. form with the district, in its present-day form, Hotan.

Collector. The collector field takes the label's T. T. Trofimov. The Harvard botanist index lists a T. T. Trofimov who collected for the Moscow University herbarium in 1935–1937, with no first name or dates, and nothing read ties him to Khotan; the initials are not expanded and the name is not linked.

Taxon. The infobox takes the collector's determination, var. spontanea.
