Identifier
The accession identifier is NPG-AFG-BAL-1120180002, built to the grammar in the project's naming reference: holder NPG (the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System), ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month and year of collection, sequence. The sequence counts this holder's accessions with the same country, province and date. The genebank's own number is G 33687.
Sourcing
Everything on this page comes from the GRIN-Global entry, as it stood on 27 October 2026: the passport data, the source history and the donor's narrative. The narrative is the donor's own account of the seed, edited lightly by the curator. GRIN's collector field names Angus on every accession of this donation, including those whose narratives name someone else or nobody, so it is not used here. The entry says the accession was, or was attempted to be, included in the 2024 genome sequencing and phenotyping trial run by the USDA Agricultural Research Service with HudsonAlpha. It also carries the curator's notes and trial measurements from field trials in the United States. The article does not report them: they describe plants grown in those trials, not the population where the seed was gathered.
Other accessions of this line
The wiki's other Balkh accessions are seed lots of The Real Seed Company: Balkhi General Population 2018, Balkhi General Population 2019 (held by the genebank as G 33689) and RSC-AFG-BAL-0120060001. No source ties this lot to any of them, and a shared province and year is not evidence that two lots are one, so they are kept apart. The donor gave the genebank five Balkh lots collected by Lucas Strazzeri, G 33684 to G 33688, each with its own name and description; each has its own accession here.
Georeferencing
The point 36.76, 66.90 is the town of Balkh, OpenStreetMap node 312726837 (a town). The donor's note places the fields on the outskirts of Balkh and names no spot among them, so the point stands for the town and its outskirts, not for a field. The wiki's Balkh growing-area page has its point at 36.667, 67.079, about 19 km to the south-east: that point stands for the growing area, not the town. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 5 km.
