Evidentiary scope
The locality states cultivation: Cultivé à l'Union agricole du Sig. That is stronger evidence than a bare occurrence, because it places the plant in a grower's hands. It does not say who grew it, why, from what seed, on what scale or to what end and it does not name a variety or a local name. The accession is classified Other: cultivation at an agricultural settlement establishes a crop, not a landrace. No conservation priority is assigned.
The Union agricole du Sig was a colonial agricultural settlement in the Sig plain. The article does not describe it, because nothing in the sources consulted for this batch describes it and an account of the settlement drawn from general reading would go beyond what this sheet supports. It is listed in the batch follow-ups as worth a source hunt.
The label has not been read
An image of this sheet is published with the GBIF occurrence, but `mediaphoto.mnhn.fr` and `science.mnhn.fr` both sit behind a bot check that refuses automated requests and neither a scripted fetch nor the in-app browser can reach them. Georeferencing
Sig is a town in Mascara Province, east of Oran. The locality names an establishment and not a point. The catalogue gives no coordinate, altitude or habitat, so no coordinate or elevation is asserted.
Editorial treatment
The catalogue dates the sheet to the span 21 June to 22 September 1850. That is a genuine seasonal range, not the publisher's year-only encoding: compare Steinheil s.n., Bône (1834) and Barat s.n., Sig (1850), which are both held as 1 January to 31 December of their year. The infobox stores the year, because the date field takes a single value and the span is given in the article.
The collector field takes Durando alone, as the catalogue gives it. The International Plant Names Index records Gaetano Leone Durando, 1811 to 1892 and the title and collector field could take G. Durando instead if the house form is applied strictly. They do not, because the catalogue supplies no initial for this sheet and the expansion is an identification and not a transcription. This is ruling R5 in the batch package.
Barat s.n., Sig (1850) is a second sheet from the same establishment in the same year by a different collector. The two are separate accessions, not duplicates: different catalogue numbers, different collectors and no shared gathering number to tie them.
