Evidentiary scope
The form gives the number, the province and the date. It names no habitat, use or note on cultivation. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read twice, independently, from the Chinese Virtual Herbarium's image of the sheet (TIE 00004145, 1,000 × 1,659 pixels).
- Form (printed HERBIER, by hand): 6255 / Famille Urticacée, 大麻科 faint in pencil / Nom scientifique Cannabis. / Station 山東 / Date 6.VII.21. A second number, 1449, above the form.
- Determination slip (ink): Cannabis sativa L. / det.: J. Kozlov.
- Slip (pink, pencil): a number, read as E407 or 2407, struck through / Urticacée / Cannabis.
- Barcode TJNHM HERBARIUM (TIE); a faint pencilled 158.7 at the foot of the form, read in one reading only.
The readings agree on the form. One reads the determiner's name as Korlov, with Kozlov queried; the other reads Kozlov.
Georeferencing
No point is given. The form names the province, 山東 (Shantung), and no place within it. The province field takes Shandong.
Editorial treatment
Title. No collector is named, so the title takes Anon. and the number written on the form, with the year of its date.
Collector. The sheet names no collector, and the collector field is left empty. The same printed Herbier form, numbered in one series, carries Tianjin's sheets of Licent 231 (1914) and Licent 886 (1914) and the sheet of Wang 10415 (1933), whose form names J. B. Wang: the series holds gatherings by more than one collector, so the number does not name one.
Determination. The identified-by field takes J. Kozlov, as the sheet gives it. The Harvard botanist index lists one botanist of that surname with material at Tianjin, Innokentij Valerianovich Kozlov (1898–1984), with a collector's note for Manchuria from 1920 to 1931, and Chinese Wikipedia's article on the museum's forerunner, 北疆博物院 (the Musée Hoang-ho Pai-ho), names a Russian, Kozlov, in charge of its higher plants. No source read gives the initial J. with his full name, and the name is not linked.
Image. The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its images under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, so the page cites each sheet's image and shows none.
