Wang 10415 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at a place its label calls Si Chan, in China, on 7 August 1933 by a collector named on the label as J. B. Wang. The Tianjin Natural History Museum holds two sheets, TIE 00004142[1] and TIE 00052959[2].
Collection and locality
TIE 00004142 carries a printed French form headed Herbier, with lines for the family, the scientific and common names, the station, the locality, the date and the plant's properties and uses, completed by hand: the number 10415, the family Urticacée struck through, with 大麻科 beside it, the name Cannabis sativa L., the locality Si Chan, the name J.B.Wang and the date 7.VIII.33 (7 August 1933).[3] TIE 00052959 carries a pencilled slip with the same date and number, 7. VIII. 33 and 10415, and a later label of the herbarium of the Tianjin Natural History Museum (天津自然博物馆植物标本室), which gives the place 山西 (Shanxi), the date 1933.8.7 and the collector Licent, with the number 10415.[4] The catalogue gives J. B. Wang and 1933 for the first sheet, with no province, and Licent, the number 10415, 1933 and Shanxi for the second.[1][2]
Specimen and identification
Both sheets carry a slender stem with narrow, serrate leaflets and small male flowers along the top. The form names the plant Cannabis sativa L., and the later label Cannabis sativa L. and 大麻, with no determiner.[3][4] The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its sheet images under a non-commercial, no-derivatives licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0); they are read and cited here, not reproduced.
