Suvannasuddhi 457 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at the Forestry School in Phrae, northern Thailand, on 1 August 1940. The Forest Herbarium (BKF) in Bangkok holds the gathering on five sheets, barcodes SN 009251, SN 009252, SN 232958, SN 232959 and SN 232960. Its catalogue files all five under accession BKF 97905 and gives the collector as Suvannasuddhi, S.[1][2][3][4][5]
Collection and locality
Each sheet carries a printed Flora of Siam label of the Royal Forest Department, filled in by hand in Thai. The labels give the locality as โรงเรียนวนศาสตร์ แพร่ or โรงเรียนวนศาสตร์ จังหวัดแพร่. They give the collector's number as ๔๕๗, that is 457.[6][7] The date is written ๑/๘/๘๓. The catalogue reads it as 1 August 1940.[1] No altitude is recorded. The labels are signed by the collector สมคิด.[6]
Recorded local name
All five labels give the local name as ป่านแม้ว.[6][7][8][9][10]
Specimen and identification
The labels describe the plants as Shrub and dioecious. Three give the height as สูงประมาณ ๖-๘ ฟุต, about 6 to 8 feet.[6][7][9] SN 232958 and SN 232960 give it as ๗-๘ ฟุต, 7 to 8 feet. Both add the phrase ปลูกขึ้นเอง.[8][10] SN 232958 carries a packet marked Staminate flowers. and dated 1-8-83.[8]
The labels name the plant Cannabis sativa, L. or Linn. SN 009252 carries a later determination, Cannabis sativa Linn., initialled and dated 20.IX.58.[7] The catalogue records all five sheets as Cannabis sativa L.[1]
