Stainton 1286 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected on open slopes by the Mewa Khola, in the Tamur valley of eastern Nepal, at 3,500 feet on 7 August 1956 by John David Adam Stainton. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh holds the sheet as E00248602.[1][2]
Collection and locality
The typed label is headed Ex Herbario Musei Britannici, Flora of Nepal, [Long. 87°–88°E.] and 1956. It reads Tamur Valley. Mewa Khola, 3,500ft., 7.8.1956 and On open slopes. Flowers pale green., and is signed Coll. John D. A. Stainton, number 1286.[3] The catalogue gives the collector, the number and the date, 7 August 1956, and no locality, altitude or habitat.[1] The label's 3,500 feet is about 1,067 metres, and the infobox stores the rounded metric figure. The Tamur valley lies in Koshi Province.
Specimen and identification
The label and the catalogue determine the sheet as Cannabis sativa L.[1] Edinburgh publishes the sheet image under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence.[3] Stainton's two Nepalese sheets of 1954 are Stainton 586 (1954) and Stainton 1590 (1954).
