Smirnov 1025 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa gathered in a gorge on the road from Kzyl-Agach to Kopal, today's Kyzylagash and Kapal in Jetisu Region, Kazakhstan, on 26 August 1928 by V. I. Smirnov of the Dzhetysu botanical expedition. The Moscow University Herbarium holds the sheet as MW0818737.[1]
Collection and locality
The printed label reads Центральное Управление Землеустройства Казакстана. Джетысуйская ботаническая экспедиция 1928 года под руководством Н. В. Павлова. В. И. Смирнов. Растения Семиречья, Талды-Курганского уезда. (Central Land Management Administration of Kazakhstan. Dzhetysu botanical expedition of 1928 under the direction of N. V. Pavlov. V. I. Smirnov, Plants of Semirechye, Taldy-Kurgan uezd), with Собр. В. И. Смирнов (collected by V. I. Smirnov), a blank line for the determiner, and in Latin V. SMIRNOV. Plantae Kasakstanicae, gub. Dschetysu distr. Taldy-Kurgan. 1928. On this copy the printed line for the lower Karatal is absent, and the label is completed in violet ink Cannabis sativa L., Кзыл-Агач. Ущелье по дороге от Кзыл-Агача к Копалу. (Kzyl-Agach. A gorge on the road from Kzyl-Agach to Kopal), 26/VIII 28 and № 1025. A separate printed map slip of the lower Karatal, Balkhash and Kopal area, at a scale of 60 versts to the inch (Масштаб 60 в. в дюйме), carries a red ink mark on the river Kyzyl-agach north-west of Kopal.[2] The catalogue gives the collector, the number, the date and the place.[1]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a thick, branched stem laid on the diagonal, with many leaves of narrow leaflets.[2] The label names the plant Cannabis sativa L. and leaves the determiner blank. A typed slip gives the redetermination of the sheet by E. Small of Canada Agriculture in August 1975 as Cannabis sativa L. subsp. sativa var. spontanea Vav.; the catalogue files it as Cannabis sativa L.[2][1]
