Evidentiary scope
The label places a cannabis plant in a gorge on the road from Kzyl-Agach to Kopal in August 1928. It gives no use and no note on cultivation. A single gathering does not establish a landrace or a continuing population. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read twice, independently, from the holder's image (3437 × 4746 pixels).
- Printed label as on Smirnov 919 (1928), without the printed Низовья р. Каратала on the locality line.
- By hand (violet). Cannabis sativa L. / Кзыл-Агач. Ущелье по дороге от Кзыл-Агача / к Копалу. / 26/VIII 28 (the month written close) / № 1025.
- Map slip. A red ink mark on the river Р. Кызыл-агач north-west of Копал.
- Small's slip (typed). Cannabis sativa L. / subsp. sativa var. spontanea Vav. / E. Small, Canada Agriculture, Aug. 1975.
- The stamped number 230037 near the barcode is a registration number of the herbarium, not a field number.
- A pencilled 1973 in the lower right corner, in the hand seen on nearly every sheet of this series in the herbarium, says nothing about its purpose and is not used.
Georeferencing
The point 45.25567, 78.835144 is the one the herbarium's database publishes for this sheet, with an uncertainty of 15 km. It lies between the two places the label names: 16.3 km south-east of the village of Kyzylagash (OpenStreetMap node 534085029) and 22.1 km north-west of Kapal (way 1168479090), about 3 km off the straight line between them, in Aksu District, Jetisu Region. SRTM gives 683 m, between the villages' 476 m and 1,239 m, as a road climbing from one to the other would. No gorge on the road is named in OpenStreetMap, so the point is a point on the road's corridor, not the gorge. Basis: holder's georeference. Uncertainty: about 15 km.
Editorial treatment
Place. Kzyl-Agach is Kyzylagash and Kopal is Kapal (Qapal), the former fortification and uezd town; the locality takes today's names.
