Simalungun (Kabupaten Simalungun) is a regency of North Sumatra, Indonesia, stretching from the north-eastern rim of the Lake Toba caldera down toward the lowlands around the city of Pematangsiantar, which it surrounds. The lakeside resort town of Parapat lies within the regency.
In the cannabis record Simalungun appears twice over: as the site of one small intercropped cultivation case and as the corridor through which cannabis moves between the highlands and Medan along the Siantar to Parapat road.[1]
Cannabis in Simalungun
In June 2024 Polres Simalungun found 24 cannabis plants concealed among coffee trees at Juma Lepar, Nagori Ujung Bawang, Dolok Silau district. SINDOnews described the metre-tall plants as disguised by the surrounding coffee crop.[2]
The regency's larger role in reporting is as transit ground. In April 2026 Polda Sumut stopped a car on the Siantar to Parapat road and seized about 151 kg of cannabis; the driver, per the police account, said the load came from Mandailing Natal and that he had carried two earlier consignments.[1]
