La "prehistoria" de la marihuana en Colombia: consumo y cultivos entre los años 30 y 60
Cuadernos de Economía
An archival history of marijuana use and growing in Colombia between the 1930s and the 1960s, set against the view that the plant had no history in the country before the export boom. The author draws on official reports, police records and press accounts. He documents the September 1939 ban on cultivation, about 60 cases of possession, sale and growing in and around Barranquilla between 1940 and 1944, a confidential 1952 foreign ministry report naming Santa Marta as a source of marijuana shipped to Florida on banana boats, and a 1961 report to an inter-American meeting that lists cultivation in Valle del Cauca, Caldas, Antioquia and other departments, including the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in Magdalena. Useful for dating the earliest recorded cultivation and the first controls.
