Cultivadores, comerciantes y marimberos. Historia social del municipio de Villanueva – Guajira, 1974–1986

A bachelor's thesis in social sciences education on the social history of Villanueva, in the south of La Guajira, during the marijuana bonanza of 1974 to 1986, with oral-history interviews. A resident interviewed in 2017 recalls mule trains of 100 to 300 animals bringing the harvest down from the high Sierra, and a quintal of marijuana fetching 70,000 to 100,000 pesos in the late 1970s against 20,000 for malanga and 60,000 for coffee. The thesis also reports harvests on farms in the Serranía del Perijá with caches and presses near the town, and quotes a 1977 newspaper report of 380,000 plants on 10 hectares in the municipality of Codazzi found in an air operation.
